FCE Reminder Messages

Dear Carnegie Mellon Student,

Faculty Course Evaluations (FCEs) are one of the most important mechanisms to gain insights from you on your educational experience. The Faculty Course Evaluation (FCE) partnered with SmartEvals will be available from now through [End Date]. We urge you to complete evaluations for all of your [Mini] [Semester][Year] courses.

The FCE results are used in many ways:

  • Student feedback can play a major role in faculty course design and revision.
  • Data received are key components of the promotion and tenure process for faculty.
  • They provide valuable insights for you and your peers as you consider the classes you wish to take in the future.

Your confidential and anonymous constructive comments are often very insightful and are reviewed by the instructor, department heads and deans.

Your role is critical in this process. Please take the time to provide your insights so that we can maintain and enhance the excellence in education at Carnegie Mellon University.

Sincerely,
Joy Cavaliero, Senior Associate Registrar

Dear Carnegie Mellon Student,

Faculty Course Evaluations (FCEs) were launched years ago as a student organization initiative and have since been adopted by the university as one of the most important mechanisms we have as a faculty and as an institution to gain insights from you, our students, on your educational experience. From now through [End Date], the online FCE system will be available and we urge you to complete evaluations for all of your [Mini] [Semester] [Year] courses.

The FCE data are used in many ways. Student feedback has been shown to play a major role in faculty course design and revision. These data are also key components of the promotion and tenure process for faculty across the university. Finally, FCEs provide valuable insights for you and your peers as you consider the classes you wish to take in the future.

We realize that the end of the semester is a busy time for everyone; however, your role is critical in this process. The FCE forms have been streamlined so that students are not overburdened with this end-of-semester task. Thank you for taking the time to provide your insights so that we can maintain and enhance the excellence in education we strive to offer to each and every student.

Sincerely,

Amy L. Burkert, Vice Provost for Education
Gina Casalegno, Dean of Student Affairs
