Andrew Web Server Guideline
Purpose
The Carnegie Mellon Computing Policy details use of computing, telephone and information resources. In support of this policy, the Andrew Web Server Guideline provides a clear understanding of proper usage, and ensures performance is maintained on the Andrew Web Server. We reserve the right to modify this guideline as necessary.
Applies to
Students, faculty, staff and those with sponsored, guest or courtesy accounts.
Definition/Clarification
Factors that can have a negative impact on the Andrew Web Server include, but are not limited to:
- providing large files for download
- providing frequently downloaded content
Guideline Statement
Computing Services will limit the bandwidth used by any organization or personal web directory hosted on www.andrew.cmu.edu in instances where that web directory access is access is over 4 GB in a single day. Once bandwidth limits are imposed, the directory will be permitted to serve no more than 30 MB in six hours. After 30-days, this limit will be lifted, but may be renewed if the directory again exceeds the 4 GB per day limit. The owner will be notified via Computing Services NISC system. During the enforcement period, visitors to the affected web site may encounter an error message.
Responsibilities and Procedures
Owners services who exceed the usage guideline and feel they have cause to do so, should contact Computing Services. In all cases, solutions for fair use of the Andrew Web Server will favor those services that support the research and educational goals of the university.
