Add Links

Follow the steps below to create one of the three link types in a WYSIWYG content area.

  • Internal - links to page or document in your site.
  • Anchor - links to an area of a longer page or to an Expand/Collapse section.
  • External - links to a web page outside of your site or an email address.
  1. Select the text or image you want to make the link. Be sure to use relevant text not "click here."
  2. Click Insert/Edit Link .
  3. Click Browse .
  4. Locate the file/page and click Confirm. If linking to a document (e.g., PDF, Word Docs) select New Window for Target and add a description.
  5. Choose a button (btn) or Call to Action (CTA) style from the Class drop-down. (Optional)
  6. Click Insert.

Step 1: Insert the Anchor

  1. Place your cursor where you want the link to "jump."
  2. Click Anchor .
  3. Type a relevant name (lowercase, no spaces or special characters) and then click Insert.
  4. Continue to step 2.

Expand/Collapse Section

Enter a relevant name (lowercase, no spaces or special characters) for Section ID and continue to step 2.

Step 2: Insert the Link

  1. Open the page where you want the link.
  2. Select the text or image you want to make the link.
  3. Click Insert/Edit Link .
  4. Link to the anchor:
    • Within the existing page - Type the name for Anchor.
    • Another page in your site - Click Browse and locate the file. Click Confirm. Type the name for Anchor.
  5. Choose a button (btn) or Call to Action (CTA) style from the Class drop-down. (Optional)
  6. Click Insert.
  1. Select the text or image you want to make the link. Be sure to use relevant text not "click here."
  2. Click Insert/Edit Link .
  3. Select External.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • Web page - Type or paste the URL into the Link field. Include the https://.
    • Email address - Type mailto: followed by the email address (i.e., mailto:juser@cmu.edu) or add ?subject=Your Subject Line after the email address to include a set subject (i.e., mailto:juser@cmu.edu?subject=Reservation Form)
  5. Select New Window for Target.
  6. Choose a button (btn) or Call to Action (CTA) style from the Class drop-down. (Optional)
  7. Click Insert.

Add an External Link to your Navigation

This link will appear as part of your navigation, but goes to an external website.

  1. Select the folder, in the file structure, where you want the link.
  2. Select New > External Link.
  3. Complete the fields:
    • System Name - file name displayed in the CMS folder structure and the live web address. No spaces or special characters; the first page in a folder is index.
    • Title - page name displayed in the navigation.
    • Open in - choose current or new window.
    • Navigation Area - choose primary or secondary
    • Link - type or paste the URL. Include the https://.
  4. Click Submit.

Edit

  1. Select the linked text or image.
  2. Click Insert/Edit Link .
  3. Make your change.
  4. Click Update.

Remove

Select the linked text or image and click Unlink .
