Yang's main interest is visual computing including vidio understanding and visualization. He created theories of Instinctive Computing and Ambient Diagnostics. He is Senior Systems Scientist of Cylab at Carnegie Mellon University. He was NASA Faculty Fellow in 2002 and 2003 and he has organized international workshops in Instinctive Computing, Ambient Intelligence and Digital Human Modeling.
