BaseCamp Orientation Welcomes MBA Class of 2021
BaseCamp is a three-week orientation program that prepares MBA students for their next two years at the Tepper School of Business.
Each August, incoming Tepper School of Business Full-Time MBA students arrive three weeks before the start of fall classes for BaseCamp, an orientation program consisting of information sessions, networking activities, and other events intended to set them up for success in their MBA program and summer internship search.
“BaseCamp is designed to let students hit the ground running by immediately familiarizing them with the academic experience of the Tepper MBA program and kicking off their internship and career recruitment,” said Wendy Hermann, Executive Director of Masters Programs Student Services.
First-year MBA students participate in typical orientation activities such as social events and a campus tour, as well as introductory modules for various functional areas that will encompass their MBA studies, including entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, operations, and strategy. These modules also allow incoming students to get to know their future professors.
New this year is a course on Managing Teams, with sessions during the second and third weeks of the program. The curriculum previews the Managing People and Teams course that MBA students are required to take in their first semester and begins preparing them for the variety of leadership roles they will experience at the Tepper School and in their career.
At a student-run networking night, first-year MBA students have the opportunity to interact with their second-year classmates to work on their networking skills and develop mentor relationships.
The highlight of BaseCamp is Tepper Team Day at Camp Guyasuta in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. Students participate in teambuilding activities such as rope courses and obstacle courses designed to challenge students on their skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making.
