Alumni Reunion Weekend 2018
This year’s Reunion Weekend on April 20-21 set attendance records with 422 alumni from their milestone years and 616 total attendees. With 83 attendees, the Class of 1993 broke the record for the highest class attendance and the highest attendance for a 25th reunion.
“The thing that struck me was how it seemed that the clock had stopped ticking in the interim,” said Kurt Lammon, MSIA ’93. “You picked up right where you left off with all these wonderful people you shared an intense experience with, even though most of them you hadn't seen or talked to in all that time.”
Guests traveled from 13 countries and 29 states for a weekend full of networking, social gatherings, faculty presentations and alumni panels. Many attendees had the opportunity to tour the new home of the business school on the nearly complete Tepper Quad, which opens this year.
For the second year, the Reunion schedule included panels of prominent alumni highlighting their experiences in a variety of fields: entrepreneurship, marketing, technology and innovation, and venture capital and investing. Faculty presentations included Bryan Routledge speaking on “Bitcoin, Cryptocurrencies, and the Economy”; Sridhar Tayur on “Moonshot: Quantum Computing”; and Anita Williams Woolley on “Artificial Intelligence and Collective Intelligence in Teams.”
Mary Willoud, MSIA ’88, said, “I wanted to attend this Reunion to relive my appreciation for the camaraderie formed by accomplishing challenging work together during those two years and sharing aspirations of being the best we can be. The caliber of people in our class makes me proud to be part of the group and re-energizes me to continue to better myself!”
The most anticipated event at Reunion, the All-Class Celebration welcomed alumni and their families to the UPMC Club at Heinz Field on Saturday. The event included the annual Tepper School Alumni Awards ceremony honoring David Coulter, MSIA/BSIM ’71; Gunjan Kedia, MSIA ’94; Devin Anderson, MBA ’05; and Michael Miller, MBA ’11.
“Reunion gives me an opportunity to reconnect with friends in a place that we once shared numerous hours and created many memories together. It's a great reminder of one of the many things that drew me to Tepper initially — the tight-knit community, from which we established many relationships that have since evolved into lifelong friendships,” said Justina Lee, MBA ’13.
