Frequently Asked Questions-Take Our Kids To Work - Carnegie Mellon University

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to attend all activities and purchase a lunch ticket?

Not at all! Your daughter or son may choose to attend any activity, the lunch or the tracks in any combination. Please note that the second session consists of a pairing of activities which are not exchangeable - the pairing of activities can not be switched around.

How do I buy a lunch, do I have to pay for each child separately?

This year you are able to preorder your lunch online.  See the Lunch and Entertainment section for more details, and to purchase your lunch.  The lunches cost $7/each if you preorder online, and $10 cash only the day of if you fail to preorder.

You can buy multiple lunches at once, however each participant must have a separate registration so make sure you register all your children/participants before you go to buy a lunch.

Is my daughter or son the right age to participate in the program?

The tracks and activities are designed for girls and boys ages 8 to 15. When the children are not attending the planned program (free recreational time, lunch program or tracks), they will be spending the day shadowing you, meeting your co-workers, and helping you with your work day.

Can I attend part of one track, and part of another track?

Sorry, but no. We work to make each track as exciting as possible and know that not everyone will be interested in the same things. We are limited to the number of girls or boys we can place in a track. If you're not sure what you want to attend, pick the track that has the session that you are most interested in. The other parts should be just as exciting!

Can my daughter (or son) and friend be in the same track?

If friends wish to attend tracks together, they should register together. If that's not possible, they should indicate that they wish to be placed with a friend (and make sure that friend also registers). Tracks fill up quickly, so please get your choices in early.
