Pittsburgh Connections

The Pittsburgh Connections program is coordinated through the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement, and Civic Engagement (SLICE) and is generously funded by the RK Mellon Foundation, the Dozzi family, and the Division of Student Affairs. The program strives to engage students in outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and cultural awareness throughout Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. The core goals of these activities are to help students develop and maintain a physically active lifestyle, build leadership skills, and increase their appreciation for the Western Pennsylvania region.

Each weekend through the academic year –excluding breaks and majors events– Pittsburgh Connections sponsors an Outdoor Adventure to one of the many outdoor recreation facilities in our area and sells tickets at a heavily subsidized price.  Past trips have included whitewater rafting, kayaking, biking, hiking, paintball, horseback riding, and skiing to name a few.  The schedule of events can be found on The Bridge and tickets are sold online at two Mondays prior to the scheduled trip.

A few times per year, Pittsburgh Connections adds a unique twist to the regular outdoor recreation program by adding a service element.  Adventures with Impact serve as our opportunity to give back to the environment so that we can protect our natural resources and continue to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.  Past trips have included Paddle Without Pollution, tree planting, and winterizing community garden beds.
