Carnegie Mellon University

Season of Giving at CMU

Each year from November through December, Carnegie Mellon students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to give back to local families in need through several initiatives.

Thanksgiving Baskets

Each year, Carnegie Mellon students, faculty, staff, and organizations donate over 100 Thanksgiving Baskets containing all of the ingredients for a delicious and nutritious meal. Our non-profit partners Light of Life Rescue Mission, Operation Better Block, Rainbow Kitchen, and Sojourner House distribute the baskets to local families in need so they can celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

If you, your organization, residential community, or department is interested in organizing a basket, please contact Jazmin Nixon Cartwright. Baskets are typically collected one to two weeks before Thanksgiving.

Toys for Tots

Carnegie Mellon students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to donate toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Toys for Tots collects new, unwrapped toys and distributes them as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the local area.

  • New unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the SLICE Office or one of several other locations around campus.
  • You can shop from our Amazon Wishlist and toys will be delivered directly to our office. Please be sure to include your name so we can confirm with you that we've received your gift.
