Days of Service

Orientation Day of Service

Each year during Orientation week, we welcome all first year undergraduate and graduate students to engage with our vibrant city of Pittsburgh and learn about Carnegie Mellon’s culture of civic engagement early on through direct service with over 25 community partners.   Students have the opportunity to do neighborhood & river cleanups, organize donations, prepare meals for families in need and much more.

Undergraduates can learn more about the day in their Orientation booklet or by talking to your RA or OC. Graduate Students will receive more information during their Orientation.

All students can Pre-register for this event through The Bridge.

Orientation Day of Service
1000plus - Repair the World

1000plus, a recognized student organization, advised out of the SLICE Office, coordinates a day of service during the fall and spring semesters. Carnegie Mellon students, faculty, staff, and alumni have an opportunity to positively impact the greater Pittsburgh community by engaging in service efforts with approximately 30 community partners. The 1000plus executive board takes on the responsibility of identifying community partners and service projects that will meet real needs in Pittsburgh, training student site leaders who will lead participants through the project, as well as orchestrating a kickoff event and all necessary logistics for the day.
