Special Accommodations

The Pre-College Student Life Office keeps files for each student and appreciates information related to any special needs or extenuating circumstances that can help us support your child during their time at Carnegie Mellon. Individuals with Disabilities

Any qualified student with a physical or learning disability is entitled by law to reasonable accommodations according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. If a student identifies himself or herself as having a disability, teaching assistants and instructors can ask if the student has a letter of certification, which documents the disability and describes the accommodations to be made. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis. In order to receive services or accommodations, verification of a disability is required. In order to make accomodations for students with disabilities, you must fill out the Voluntary Disclosure of Disability form through the enrollment portal.

Air Conditioners

ONLY students with a serious medical condition, confirmed by their physician with documentation received by Health Services, will be permitted to rent an air-conditioning unit. The Housing Facilities department will install the units on opening day. Instructions for how to submit a Special Housing Form, you must view the "Action: Special Housing Needs" learning content on the enrollment portal and follow the instructions listed on the portal.
