Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions that we typically get asked about Family Weekend. If you do not see the answer to your question here, do not hesitate to contact the Office of Orientation and Family Programs at 412 268-4886.

Family Weekend is an informative, engaging and important yearly tradition! Over the course of the Weekend, Carnegie Mellon welcomes parents and families to visit campus in order to interact with the organizations, people and places that have become important to your student. This year, we look forward to a variety of recreation, social and cultural events, including varsity athletics, topical and interesting programs by faculty and staff, academic programming presentations, student performances and exhibits.

Registration for families will open online in early September.

In addition to the opportunity to experience programs, discussions, concerts, performances and more from members throughout the Carnegie Mellon community, attending Family Weekend also provides a wonderful chance for you to spend quality time with your student. Not only does it strengthen your relationship, but it can also provide your son or daughter the opportunity to share some of their experiences with you.

Family Weekend registration and packet pickups will be available in the Cohon University Center, Kirr Commons on the first floor from Noon - 8 pm on Friday and 8 am - 4 pm on Saturday. You may register on-site or online in advance of the weekend. You will also be able to pick up a schedule booklet, maps, and information during this time. You may depart campus at any time you wish.

You will be able to gain access over the weekend. You will locate CMU-GUEST in your Wi-Fi list. Browse to any web page to be redirected to the guest wireless page. Enter your email address and the access code listed within the schedule booklet.
