Director Gerry Elizondo Wins CIT Staff Recognition Award

Geraldine Elizondo, Director of Student Affairs at Carnegie Mellon University’s Silicon Valley campus, has received the CIT Staff Recognition Award for 2010. The award goes to a staff member of the College of Engineering who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of job performance, dedication, positive attitude and contributions as a team player. Honorees must be nominated by a CMU staff, faculty member, or student.

The College of Engineering honors outstanding staff members as a part of CIT’s mission to create and disseminate engineering knowledge in a friendly and supportive atmosphere for the benefit and welfare of all people. Nominees for the Staff Recognition award are judged on the basis of their performance in advancing CIT toward these goals.

Ms. Elizondo, who has been with Carnegie Mellon since June 2008, has over twelve years experience in higher ed student affairs. Prior to joining CMU Silicon Valley, she was the director of campus life at the San Francisco Art Institute, and worked in residence life, housing services, and commuter programs at several other universities.

Todd Sedano, director of the Software Engineering department, eagerly supports Ms. Elizondo’s nomination. “Because we’re based outside of Pittsburgh, our students can’t just walk over to Warner Hall to solve their issues. Gerry serves as the students’ own local mini HUB. She is their advocate, aiding them with payments, course registrations and other issues, which is a tremendous help for our part-time and full-time students alike.”

Dr. Martin Griss, director of Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley, agrees. “We have a small staff on our campus, and each staff member needs to lead or participate in multiple events and activities, cheerfully give more than 100%, and frequently be available to help or cover for each other. Gerry exemplifies the team-oriented, positive, can-do attitude that makes our campus a wonderful and exciting place to work.”

Congratulations to Gerry for this stellar recognition!
