Semiconductors: Engine of Technology Innovation

Semiconductors are a technology engine that drives the growth and prosperity of the broader high-tech industry. When I started my career, semiconductor companies were like high-flying Internet companies are today. Ironically, as semiconductor technology continued to evolve and bring waves of innovation into our daily lives, it seemed to lose attractiveness to Wall Street, the general public, and – more importantly – to talented young people in college. It is true that the industry faces challenges, such as industry consolidation, cost pressure, the end of Moore's Law, and dwindling interest from venture capitalists. But I firmly believe that the semiconductor business is far from being a sunset industry, and I am confident that the best is yet to come. In this seminar, I will share with you some of my observations about recent industry trends and why semiconductor is an interesting, challenging, and rewarding area that you should pursue.
