Carnegie Mellon University

Coronavirus Impacts on Student Employment (Spring 2020)

The university recognizes that student employment offers valuable practical experience and important income for many students who contribute to CMU’s mission as student workers.

Hourly student workers who are able to work remotely should continue to enter time in Workday and will be paid for each hour worked through the end of the semester. If departments determine remote work is an option for their student workers, then direct supervisors should contact students to assign work and provide remote guidance.

For those who are unable to continue working in any capacity, the university is committed to maintaining 75% of each student worker's hourly wages through early May. Hourly student workers who cannot work remotely will be paid 75% of wages based on previously approved hours during the first eight weeks of the spring 2020 semester.

Students who are not working should not enter time in Workday; the processing of the 75% payment will be managed by Human Resources.

PhD and master's students on stipends should expect their payments to continue through the spring 2020 semester via the sponsoring department or research unit.

If disruption in work has caused any financial hardship or you are in need of immediate financial assistance, please contact The HUB at thehub@andrew.cmu.edu or reach out to your HUB liaison directly.
