Bio

Alka Patel joined CMU from the Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon) where she was managing director and senior counsel to its Treasury Services business line responsible for negotiating commercial contracts for its cash management services with corporate and institutional entities within the U.S. and globally, as well as U.S. state governments. Additionally, she was responsible for negotiating privacy, data security and HIPAA matters for the business line as well as partnered with compliance and risk for alignment of products/processes with business strategy to minimize and mitigate risk exposure. She was also responsible for advising senior business line management on legal risk issues. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Alka, a registered patent attorney, worked in private practice for nine years where she represented startups, universities and Fortune 500 companies, as well as other organizations and individuals to address their business, technology and intellectual property needs. Her practice included identifying, protecting, securing and maximizing the value of clients’ intellectual property through patent prosecution, licensing and merger and acquisition activities.

Patel holds a juris doctorate and masters in business administration from Duquesne University and a bachelor of science in materials science and engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.
