The Chief Risk Officer Certificate Program

As technologies continue to advance, businesses and governments alike must be prepared to face new and evolving financial, regulatory and cybersecurity risks. The ability to formulate and deploy a risk management strategy has never been more vital, and by extension, the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) has become a crucial facet of the corporate world.

To this end, the Center is proud to promote the CRO Certificate Program for risk management executives.

This six-month program combines on-campus and synchronous distance learning to prepare leaders in risk management for the challenges of interacting with executive leadership, identifying and mitigating enterprise risks, and optimizing an organizational risk plan.

The program has educated students in numerous industries, including finance, energy, and all levels of government.

Developed and delivered by Carnegie Mellon University and the CERT Division of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the CRO Program offers several unique advantages:

  • A balance of on-campus and distance education: Our program consists of 9 modules: 4 at our Pittsburgh campus (requiring 3 on-site trips) and 5 via synchronous distance technology.
  • Convenient schedule: All of our virtual modules are held from 4:00 - 9:00PM EST.
  • World-renowned faculty: The CRO Program is taught by CMU and CERT faculty on the cutting edge of research in their fields, as well as leading industry practitioners.
  • MSIT Degree Program tuition scholarship: Students who complete the CRO Certificate Program and who subsequently apply for and are admitted into the Heinz College MSIT Degree Program are eligible for a tuition scholarship. The scholarship will be equal to the program cost paid to complete the CRO Certificate Program.
