CMU Showcases Groundbreaking Innovations at Venture Fair

Greenlighting LogoCMU was a sponsor of the 3 Rivers Venture Fair (, which highlighted Greenlighting Startups ( at the exhibition at PNC Park last week. The event showcased breakthrough innovations in technology, life sciences and energy (including four related to CMU: Spectra Genetics, NoWait, Wombat Security and Voci Technologies) for an audience of venture capitalists, private investors, investment bankers, and leaders in business, finance and entrepreneurship.

Additionally, 14 pre-formation companies (half representing CMU and half representing the University of Pittsburgh) presented their 3-minute elevator pitches at the American Idol-like University Technology Showcase competition for the chance to win a cash prize based on audience votes. Sanna Gaspard, a CMU Ph.D. student in biomedical engineering, took first place for her patent-pending, low-cost, non-invasive device capable of detecting early stage pressure ulcers. Doug Bernstein, a senior in biomedical engineering representing Peca Labs, won third place for his patient-specific artificial heart valve for right ventricle reconstruction in pediatrics.
