Carnegie Mellon University

Parents Leadership Program

The Parents Leadership Program provides opportunities for parents to become involved at the university through philanthropy, volunteerism, and advocacy. Here are a few ways that you can participate:

  • Host an Event. Help us build the CMU community in YOUR community by hosting a Tartan Tea or small dinner for parents in your area. We’ll work with you to plan your event, then we’ll send the email invitations to local parents and manage the guest list. You provide the location and refreshments and make sure that everyone feels welcome. This is a great opportunity to meet other CMU parents!
  • Be an Ambassador. The CMU alumni network is more than 90,000 members strong, but parents also play a role in promoting the university by participating in events and welcoming new families, in person or via phone and email connections. Opportunities exist on campus and in locations around the world.
  • Share your Expertise. Our students and alumni benefit from an outstanding array of services provided by CMU’s Career & Professional Development Center (CPDC), including experiential learning opportunities and job placement services. Consider connecting your employer with the CPDC to provide these opportunities for our talented students and alumni.
  • Make a Gift. At Carnegie Mellon, we are grateful for the outstanding philanthropic support that we receive from alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, and friends. All donations to the university, regardless of the amount, are appreciated. Gifts may be directed to the CMU Fund to meet the university’s most urgent needs, or you may give to the college, department, or student organization of your choice. Make an online gift today.

If you are interested in getting involved at Carnegie Mellon, please complete our Opportunities for Parent Involvement form and return it to us. We’ll be in touch with ideas that align with your areas of interest or expertise.
