Visiting Pittsburgh
Because your student attends Carnegie Mellon, located in one of the most historic yet dynamic cities in the U.S., you’ve hopefully had the opportunity to explore it while you were in town over the past few years. If you’re visiting for Commencement, this may be your first time on campus or your last planned trip to Pittsburgh for a bit. Either way, here are a few suggestions of activities you won’t want to miss.
- Visit a Pittsburgh Museum. From arts to science, history to sports, Pittsburgh offers great museums. Students may use their CMU ID card to gain free admission and families pay regular visitor prices.
- Take in a family-friendly event for all ages. Visit the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium or the Children’s Museum.
- Explore with a Pittsburgh Tour. See the city by Segway, bike or boat.
- Love the outdoors? Take a hike in one of Pittsburgh's many parks. You can rent bicycles throughout the city. Pittsburgh’s waterfront has great walking/biking trails and kayaks to rent.
- Try a new restaurant. Pittsburgh was recently recognized as “2019 Food City of the Year” and has food options for all tastes and price ranges. Check out more than 130 restaurant recommendations and reviews from Discover the Burgh.
- Visit Fallingwater, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's famous architectural feats. Fallingwater is located in Southwest Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, about a 90-minute drive from Pittsburgh.
