It's Never Too Early to Begin the Career Exploration Process

Carnegie Mellon University’s Career & Professional Development Center (CPDC) provides a comprehensive range of services, programs and materials for students to think about their career exploration, professional development and employment assistance. The CPDC offers resources available specifically for first-year students to assist with early career preparation.

  • The Careers for First Years program offers sessions in residence halls around campus focused on writing a resume, cover letter and preparing an elevator pitch.
  • Students can sign up for a CPDC 101 meeting with a staff member for an introduction to resources.
  • The CPDC coordinates several job shadowing opportunities, such as informational interviews and Take a Tartan to Work, to help students explore various career options.
  • Support exists specifically for students with emotional and cognitive differences through the Olitsky Family Foundation Career Readiness Program.

As a parent or family member, you not only play a role in your own student’s career development, but you can get involved to help other Carnegie Mellon University students learn about your profession. Please consider volunteering through the Tartan Talks or Take a Tartan to Work program.

For more information, contact the CPDC.
