Family Weekend Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions that we typically get asked about Family Weekend. If you do not see the answer to your question here, do not hesitate to email or call us at 412-268-2142.

Family Weekend is an informative, engaging and important yearly tradition! Over the course of the weekend, Carnegie Mellon welcomes parents and families to visit campus and interact with the organizations, people and places that have become important to your student. This year, we look forward to a variety of recreation, social and cultural events, academic presentations, student performances and exhibits.

Registration Family Weekend 2020 will open in September. You will be asked for contact information, dietary restrictions, and mobility needs for all guests. Separately, you will sign up for events that require RSVP or offer ticket sales. You will be sent an email confirmation when your registration is complete.

The full 2020 Family Weekend schedule will be available in September.

In addition to the opportunity to experience programs, discussions, concerts, performances and more from members of the Carnegie Mellon community, attending Family Weekend provides the chance to spend quality time with your student. Family Weekend provides the opportunity for your student to share some of their campus experiences with you.
Family Weekend events are scheduled Friday afternoon through Sunday. On-site registration and check-in will be available on Friday and Saturday. Advanced registration is preferred, but on-site registration will be available. When you check-in, you will be able to pick up your welcome gift and download the Events at CMU App. You may depart campus at any time you wish.
Free Wi-Fi is provided to guests during Family Weekend. Directions to access the CMU-GUEST Wi-Fi will be provided on the Events at CMU App.

Despite a few moves over the years (we've been in our home in the Cohon University Center since 1996!), the University Stores have remained a campus fixture for all things Carnegie Mellon. When you visit us, you'll find plenty of Scotty dogs, tartan, and staff members inspired by the CMU community. We're proud to be independently owned by CMU - meaning we're invested in offering the unique services and products our community desires. Whether you've been involved with CMU for decades or new to campus, we hope you'll stop by and get to know us. We can't wait to meet you! Hours for the CMU Bookstore will be posted in September.
