Kathy Newman is a popular culture and mass culture expert primarily interested in the relationship between television, film, radio and print media and social and political formations. Her research focuses on:

  • explaining mass culture;
  • contemporary television and reality programming;
  • the history of television and radio;
  • controversies surrounding gender, race, ethnicity and class in contemporary popular culture; and
  • parenting — popular culture representations and cultural controversies.
