U.S. Competitiveness and America’s Energy Challenges at Carnegie Mellon

Event: Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering will host Steven E. Koonin, the Department of Energy’s undersecretary for science, at a forum designed to address America’s energy challenges.

Koonin, confirmed by the U.S. Congress in May 2009, will discuss energy security, environmental impacts and U.S. competitiveness. As the undersecretary for the Office of Science, Koonin directs the lead federal agency supporting fundamental scientific research for energy.

Pradeep K. Khosla, dean of Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering and program host, said energy is an important strategic research initiative throughout the university. “Through a Regional University Alliance, our researchers are working at the forefront with the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to help solve many of the nation’s energy challenges,” said Khosla, the Dowd University Professor at CMU.
