Tepper School of Business To Host
Summer Meeting of Econometric Society

Leading Global Experts Assemble To Advance Economic Theory and Practice, Tackle Relevant Issues

PITTSBURGH—Scores of the world's leading economists will gather at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University June 19-22 for the 2008 North American Meeting of the Econometric Society, the most prestigious learned organization in the field of economics.
The annual event is the signature forum of the society, founded in 1930 to advance economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. The Tepper School of Business is a pioneering contributor to the field of economics, counting six Nobel laureates - all in Economic Sciences - among its many achievements.
Among the featured speakers for this year's forum are Torsten Persson of the Institute for International Economic Studies in Stockholm; Zvi Eckstein of the Eitan Berglas School of Economics at Tel Aviv University and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Israel; and Guido Tabellini of IGIER (Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research) at Università Bocconi in Milan. Throughout the event, a range of pressing issues at the forefront of economic theory and practice will be addressed in such areas as monetary policy and financial markets, neuroeconomics, the economics of health care and dynamic public finance.
"Given the many challenges we face in today's global economy, it is imperative to promote discussion among leaders in this field who can test and quantify economic theories using proven statistical and mathematical methods," said Stanley E. Zin, the Richard M. Cyert and Morris H. DeGroot Professor of Economics and Statistics at the Tepper School and program co-chair along with the Tepper School's Thomas Lord Professor of Economics Dennis Epple. "The dialogue taking place at this important event addresses issues of great immediate and long-term economic significance that will impact both business and public policy throughout the world."
The 2008 North American Summer Meeting of the Econometric Society is co-sponsored by the Tepper School of Business, the Econometric Society, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, the Rand Corporation and the Journal of Applied Econometrics. Additional information about the event is available at:
