Xinru (Chelsea) Cheng

Class of 2022


Xinru (Chelsea) Cheng graduated from University of Virginia in 2020 with bachelor’s degrees in statistics and financial mathematics. Her greatest career passion is in the application of data science in the finance industry. Chelsea first discovered her interest in the finance industry during her experience at Acceleration Capital group as an analyst intern. In order to develop her quantitative skills, Chelsea then interned at Wayfair, during which she built a propensity model using gradient boosting classifier and random forest to predict users who are most likely to become product specific users. Later during her capstone project, Chelsea applied machine learning methods into technology firms’ stock price prediction and built a portfolio that proved to outperform the major index. As vice president of UVA urban dance club and competition chair of statistics club, Chelsea developed solid communication, leadership and teamworking skills. Currently, Chelsea is actively seeking opportunities in quantitative research/strategy and data science.
