City Operations

The City of Pittsburgh has proven to be an invaluable collaborator in the work of CMU’s Metro21: Smart Cities Institute. The resulting solutions benefit the residents of Pittsburgh and eventually the citizens of the wider world.

This CMU/Pittsburgh cooperation has led to extensive LED street lighting, more efficient snow plowing and street sweeping, increased city use of solar power and electric vehicles and innovative public safety initiatives. A focus on community engagement has opened new avenues for citizens to take their ideas to city officials and engage local startups as partners in pilot projects.
