Urban Data Eye Update

The Metro21 Project Understanding Public Space Use in Market Square worked to better understand how Pittsburghers use Market Square, in order to inform future planning decisions. The project used a toolkit developed by Urban Data Eye (UDE), a company co-founded by the projects principal investigator, Javier Argota Sanchez-Vaquerizo.

We are excited to share a few updates from Urban Data Eye. The firm, that is focused on quantifying streets, squares and parks, is in the middle of the Arcadis City of 2030 Accelerator Powered by Techstars and the accelerator has empowered the company to rapidly develop and grow.

News updates:

  • Multiple pilot projects are in the pipeline
  • The team won €50k funding from the European Commission (SME Phase I)
  • Confirmed that GDPR does not apply
  • UDE will be demoing their work in Amsterdam on May 28

The team has experienced some challenges, as do most tech start-ups, such as creating scalable products and keeping up with the rapid growth of the company but they are continuing to build their team to manage these obstacles.

On that note: Urban Data Eye is hiring! They are looking for a developer with AWS Cloud experience. Please see the job offer here
