Featured Fall Intern Hailey Gordon

Hailey is a new intern with Metro21 coming to us from Bakersfield, California. In addition to joining the Metro21 intern team, Hailey recently began her Masters program in the Biomedical Engineering Department at CMU. As part of her studies, Hailey has an innovative Biomedical Research project where she is testing the biocompatibility of a microelectrode array. The goal of her research is to adjust the design modifications of the microelectrode array to increase and ensure its performance over time. Recently, Hailey performed her first prototype test on laboratory mice. Hailey hopes to use the improved biocompatibility modifications to ensure that the microelectrode array can eventually be used in humans for neuroprosthetic devices and other brain computer interfaces. Her past computer science experience and her love for the human brain has made this the perfect project for her two year program.

When she’s not studying how the brain and computers can mind meld, Hailey is an avid chef, cooking up recipes of all cuisines. She believes breaking bread over delicious food is the best way to get to know someone and is known for cooking large quantities of food with the end goal of sharing it with others. Energetic, outgoing, full of laughter, and almost incapable of whispering, Hailey’s loud personality and style is happy to make its mark on the CMU campus and within the Metro21 team.
