In Washington, D.C., on 19 and 20 September 2011, hundreds of recipients of the prestigious EPA-STAR fellowship attended the official STAR fellowship conference. TPES member Billy Epting, supported in part by the fellowship since autumn 2010, was among those who travelled to historic Georgetown to meet fellow environmentally motivated graduate students at the top of their fields. During the course of the conference, Billy and several other Pittsburgh-based fellows held a meeting with congressman Mike Doyle (PA-14).

Billy presented his research in poster form. To attendees and policymakers, he also distributed copies of an infographic highlighting the negative aspects of current vehicle technology and how fuel cells and batteries can assuage them. The infographic, which he designed recently in an effort to raise his skills at communicating science and policy to a broad audience, can be found here [pdf].

The EPA posted about the conference at their official blog, Greenversations.
