Shelley Anna Named Fellow of the American Physical Society

Mechanical engineering Professor Shelley L. Anna has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society, representing the one half of one percent of APS members who hold this honor at any time. The citation for her election reads, "Contributions in extensional rheology and droplet microfluidics and in particular for elucidating and manipulating the effects of surfactants in microfluidic tip streaming.” Nominated by the society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics, Anna will receive the award during the division’s annual meeting in San Francisco in November 2014.

Anna holds joint appointments in the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering as well as a courtesy appointment in Physics. She runs the AnnaLab at Carnegie Mellon University, developing microscale experimental methods to probe and control liquid-fluid interfaces.
