MCS Students Earn Early Induction into Phi Beta Kappa
Six Mellon College of Science seniors were selected for early election to the Carnegie Mellon University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The nation’s oldest honor society, Phi Beta Kappa celebrates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, with chapters at only 286 colleges and universities across the United States.
The early initiation ceremony included a keynote from Sarah Boyle, a Dietrich College senior studying global studies with a minor in French and Francophone Studies.
“To be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa is to be warmly taken in by a community of like-minded lovers of learning,” Boyle said.
Twenty students from Carnegie Mellon were inducted at a ceremony on Oct. 17, including MCS students Alisa Chang (Mathematical Sciences), Jessica Jue (Biological Sciences), Sarah Simon (Chemistry), Victoria Van Benschoten (Chemistry), Yixiu Zhao (Mathematical Sciences) and Emily Zhu (Mathematical Sciences).
