The Creative Team is responsible for preserving and advancing CMU’s visual identity. They know the CMU brand the way Andrew knew his heart. Whether creating visual presence for the university or marketing material for specific units, the team incorporates the overall strategy and standards of the Carnegie Mellon brand. Project managers work closely with the academic and administrative units to assist in a wide range of initiatives while the design team executes to the most professional standards.
Creative Director, Marketing & Communications
Brian leads the production of creative elements developed within the creative design team. He provides design support for executive leadership and contributes to CMU’s brand strategy development. Brian’s career is rooted in North Carolina tobacco advertising, through which he learned consumer behavior and the power of brand loyalty. Since quitting tobacco marketing cold turkey, he has practiced and refined strategies to brand everything from startups to national household products over the past 20 years. He lives in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife and two very competitive teenage boys.
Senior Graphic Designer
Monica develops strategic creative design solutions, including print, digital, event packages, signage and displays. She has a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from CMU, and has won numerous design awards. Prior to CMU, Monica worked for Desbrow and Associates and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh while freelancing for small business startups. Monica thrives on problem-solving, but also enjoys cycling, reading, museums, a good glass of Merlot and traveling. Her favorite destinations are Carcassonne, France, and Saltzburg, Austria.
Senior Graphic Designer
Jordan is primarily responsible for layout design, maintaining visual branding, executive presentations, event design, interior installations and signage, infographics and digital layouts. He received his bachelor’s degree in graphic design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He is a resident artist of the Space Upstairs and a founding member of the Mobile Sculpture Workshop. As an avid comic book fan, his desk is home to a large collection of old and new action figures. Atop this mountain of Marvel stands a kilted Spiderman, the friendly office hero.
Senior Production Artist
Bruce builds press-ready and pixel-perfect files for print, digital and presentation projects. Prior to joining CMU, he worked at several top-tier advertising agencies in San Francisco, including Hal Riney & Partners, Ketchum, Leo Burnett and Mekanism. From 2012 to 2014, Bruce served as president and ADDY chair for the Bay Area chapter of the American Advertising Federation. He received a bachelor’s degree in studio art from Bucknell University, and draws and paints when he can find the time.
Sue works with CMU’s schools, colleges, departments and global locations to advance and protect the university’s identity. She often partners with the Office of General Counsel and the Trademark Licensing Office and serves as a consultant for proper usage of trademarked graphics, photographs and videos. Prior to CMU, Sue worked in advertising agencies in project management and graphic design for more than 25 years. She still has two grown sons at home, whom she loves to death, but she welcomes suggestions of how to get them out.
Senior Project Manager
Judith manages creative services projects for clients university-wide. She is a certified Project Management Professional with experience in higher education, advertising agencies and design firms. Prior to CMU, she worked for more than 10 years in support of The Art Institutes. She is an expert in project management, production management, workflow development, quality assurance and problem-solving. Judith mastered the art of typesetting back in the day, and can still measure a pica and a point by eye. She also is a licensed Pilates instructor.
