Carnegie Mellon University

Dear Faculty and Staff:

The horrific shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue this morning affects many members of our community. I am personally writing to ask you to make accommodations for students as needed this weekend and the days to come.

The Eberly Center has resources for faculty on the topic of Teaching after Tragedy. Here, you will find information to prepare you for any difficult conversations surrounding tragic events such as today’s shooting.

Our Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) is another resource available to students who may need additional support in coping with tragedy.

Feel free to forward this message to colleagues who may benefit from the information provided.

As we come to grasp with what happened, our Carnegie Mellon community will come together, and stay together, to support students and each other during difficult times like today. Please join me in continuing to keep the victims, their families, law enforcement, and our Squirrel Hill neighbors in our thoughts.

With thanks,

Laurie R. Weingart
Interim Provost
