Dear Members of the Carnegie Mellon University Community,
As I wrote to you in June, this fall Carnegie Mellon University is launching a global search for its next president. Today I write to outline next steps, and to thank Tod Johnson, Jeanne VanBriesen, and all the trustees and faculty members listed below, who have agreed to serve on the Presidential Search Committee.
Carnegie Mellon is fortunate to have clearly defined values, priorities and strategic goals, as identified and articulated in two rigorous, university-wide processes during the last five years: the presidential search of 2012-2013; and the creation of Strategic Plan 2025, completed less than two years ago. Building on that solid foundation, we expect to be able to conduct a search that will be thorough and comprehensive in its reach.
The university has retained the executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to help identify candidates and support our search committee. In the coming weeks, you will hear more from Tod and Jeanne about opportunities to meet with our search committee and contribute your ideas. In the meantime, if you would like to nominate a candidate, please send your nomination to CMU.president@russellreynolds.com.
This is a time of tremendous momentum for Carnegie Mellon University. The next president of this outstanding institution will find both great responsibility and an unparalleled opportunity. We feel confident we will be able to identify the right leader to support all of you in your endeavors, while helping the university build on its eminent history and fulfill its world-changing potential.
