Austin Whisnant is a Senior Researcher with the CERT Program at the Software Engineering Institute, a unit of Carnegie Mellon University. Her research interests include large-scale network traffic analysis, machine learning for insider threat detection, modeling and simulation, and national cybersecurity policy. She has instructed military and government personnel in cyber defense tactics, developed analytics for threat detection on large networks, and created simulation tools for advanced persistent threat analysis.
Whisnant holds a Master of Science in Telecommunications with a focus on information assurance from the University of Pittsburgh, where she was awarded the National Science Foundation Scholarship for Service. She has a Bachelor of Science from Furman University in Computer Science and Mathematics.
