Thomas is founder and principle of Wexford Run Consulting, a boutique firm that assists executives and senior managers with strategic planning, marketing, product management, and M&A activities. Thomas is a proven executive with over 20 years of experience in high tech strategic planning, marketing, and product management. He has worked for high growth firms, both domestically and internationally, ranging from start-ups to multi-billion dollar organizations. His accomplishments include identifying and justifying strategic acquisition and OEM relationships, developing over 40 strategic analyses/proposals, managing over 15 product lines, conceiving and developing a $100M+ product line, and establishing the marketing foundations for two start-ups. In addition to teaching at the Integrated Innovation Institute, Thomas also gives courses at CMU's Heinz College.
Advice for Future Innovators
"Many new solutions do not generate enough value to justify process changes and/or elimination of current value chain participants. Consequently, I would strongly recommend three things: (1) really understand your target audience's purchase behaviors, needs, and priorities; (2) understand the relative importance of the customer 'job' your innovation performs and the value it provides; and (3) really understand the value chain your solution impacts, what stakeholders may prevent or delay commercial success, and what you can do to remove the barriers."
