Carnegie Mellon University
At this time, Carnegie Mellon is planning for fall 2020 semester classes to begin in Pittsburgh on August 31 as a hybrid model of instruction, which will deliver both in-person and remote teaching and learning. Plans for on-campus housing are under development and we will communicate updates with new and returning students and families as information becomes available. Get the most up-to-date information on Carnegie Mellon’s response to the coronavirus.

Welcome home. And get excited!

Move-In Day for First-Year, International, and Transfer Students: Saturday, August 22, 2020, 10 am to 3 pm.

All students will receive a designated move-in time slot sent out in early August. Time slots will be from 10 am to 1:30 pm, except for a few buildings prone to back-up that will start with some 9:30 time slots (Welch, Henderson, Hamerschlag, Mudge, and Residence on Fifth.) You are welcome to arrive during or anytime after your assigned timeslot. Residents are encouraged to arrive before 3 p.m. in order to take advantage of our many volunteers who will help move your belongings. Please make sure you bring a photo ID with you to the check-in tent. Orientation staff will direct you to parking after you unload.

Late Check-in begins at 3:30 pm. Students arriving after 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 22, will need to visit the front desk at the Residence on Fifth to collect their ID card/keys before moving into their rooms. Keys will be available starting at 3:30 pm. This location will be open 24 hours. If you are not able to arrive to campus on August 22 and will be arriving later in the week, please email Room Assignments so that we know to hold your space for you. Please note that for late check-ins, volunteers are not available to help move your belongings.

The Housing Office will be open from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, August 23.

International students must attend a mandatory immigration check-in which takes place on Sunday, August 23. The Office of International Education will provide additional details about this session and other sessions of particular relevance to international students and their families in the coming months.

Where To Go

There will be three check-in areas on Move-In Day. Volunteers will be available at the check-in locations to assist with unloading your belongings. Information about check-in tent locations with driving directions will be sent closer to Move-In.

When you check in, you will receive your Carnegie Mellon ID encoded with your housing access directly on it, as long as you submitted a photo to the Card Office in advance. If you haven't already submitted your photo ID, visit the ID Card Services website for instructions. Otherwise, you will receive a temporary key at check-in time and can pick up your ID card at the Card Office later in the day.
