Carnegie Mellon University

Welcome home. And get excited!

Congratulations on your admission to Carnegie Mellon University! Moving can feel overwhelming, but Housing Services has your back. You'll find all the need-to-know information here, but feel free to email us with any questions.

Proposed Move-In Day for First-Year, International, and Transfer Students: Saturday, August 17, 2019

Due to traffic restrictions, students will be assigned a designated move-in time between 10 am and 2 pm. Staff and volunteers will be present until 3 pm to assist with your move-in. Please note that check-in will be temporarily unavailable from 3 pm to 3:30 pm while we transition to our late check-in location.

Late Check-in: Students arriving after 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 17, will need to visit the front desk at the Residence on Fifth to collect their ID card/keys before moving into their rooms. This location will be open 24 hours. If you are not able to arrive to campus on August 18 and will be arriving later in the week, please email Room Assignments so that we know to hold your space for you.

The Housing Office will be open from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, August 18.

International students must attend a mandatory immigration check-in which takes place during the Welcome Day activities on Sunday, August 18. The Office of International Education will provide additional details about this session and other sessions of particular relevance to international students and their families in the coming months.

Where To Go

There will be four check-in tents on Move-In Day. Volunteers will be available at the check-in locations to assist with unloading your belongings. Information about check-in tent locations with driving directions will be sent closer to Move-In.

When you check in, you will receive your Carnegie Mellon ID encoded with your housing access directly on it, as long as you submitted a photo to the Card Office in advance. If you haven't already submitted your photo ID, visit the ID Card Services website for instructions. Otherwise, you will receive a temporary key at check-in time and can pick up your ID card at the Card Office later in the day.
