Carnegie Mellon University

Greek houses close for Winter Break on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 12 pm and reopen on Friday, January 10, 2020, at 12 pm.

If you are interested in staying on campus during any portion of this time, you must register and receive approval from Housing Services. Residents who arrive before January 10 at 12 pm or reside in an open building during Winter Break without Housing approval will be assessed a fee of $100 USD per night through their student account.

In accordance with the Greek housing lease (pdf), approved Greek lease houses can remain open during Winter Break if they meet the minimum of five current occupants staying throughout the entire Winter Break. (There must be five current spring/fall occupants of the house present every day of the break period for the house to remain open.)  If five current occupants of the house are present, additional on-campus residents can stay but need approval of current residents in the room they will be residing. Housing Services will not provide access to spaces without Greek resident approval.

The Winter Break roster will be due Friday, December 6.

All Greek organizations wishing to apply to remain open during Winter Break must submit to Housing Services an occupancy list of Winter Break residents. This list must include:

  • Greek organization and name of the formal Winter Break contact person with cell phone number
  • Full names of students staying & Andrew ID's
  • Room numbers in which they will be occupying
  • Dates that each individual will be occupying the house to obtain approval to remain open
Access for all Greek residents will automatically be programmed to start working on January 10 at 12 p.m.
