The 2016 Carnegie Mellon International Film Festival and
Point Park University Proudly Present: "Faces of Conflict" Student Short Film Competition

The CMU International Film Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the theme “Faces of Conflict”. As a subsidiary of the Festival, the Student Short Film Competition invites students from all over the world to submit original short films that show their talent in filmmaking and their passion for the “Faces of Conflict” theme. As always, the theme is open to creative interpretations in every scope, topic and genre. We aspire to create a dynamic environment for global perspective at the Carnegie Mellon International Film Festival.


Grand Prize: $1000
Second Prize: $500
Third Prize: $250
Honorable Mention

3 Best High School Student Films will win scholarships to the Cinema Arts Department at Point Park University.

First Place: $15,000 Scholarship
Second Place: $10,000 Scholarship
Third Place: $5,000 Scholarship

Note: Winners of the scholarships to the Cinema Arts Department at Point Park University must meet admissions and departmental requirements. More details available by contacting infocinema@pointpark.edu.


  1. Film must be created by a student.
  2. Film must be approximately 5-15 minutes in length.
  3. Film must include but is not strictly limited to the Faces of Conflict theme. Theme is open for creative interpretation.
  4. If in a language other than English, and/or if audio is in any fashion muffled, subtitles are required.
  5. Each director can submit a maximum of 2 short films.
  6. Film must not have been submitted to CMU International Film Festival Short Film Competition before.
  7. Film must be submitted prior to March 1, 2016. Failure to submit prior to the due date may result in rejection from admittance.
  8. Format:
    1. MP4 or .MOV format
    2. Use H.264 codec
    3. Code Rate 5M per second IV. Video Size 720p (1280 x 720)
  9. Submission Process:
    1. To submit your film, please email your work to faceshortfilm@gmail.com directly or via GoogleDrive.
    2. Submission title must follow: “Film Title _ Director’s FullName”
    3. Each film submission must include a submission form. Click and download it here: Student Short Film Competition Submission Form
    4. All submissions must be accompanied by a $20 film competition fee. The fee remains $20 whether the director chooses to submit one or two films.
