Welcome to the 2018 Carnegie Mellon International "Faces" Film Festival Short Film Competition!

Our Short Film Competition buzzes and hums under the umbrella of the Carnegie Mellon International Festival. But we bring a lot of excitement to the Festival season on our own! Our annual competition event unites local and international filmmakers with professionals and with in-house audiences. All the eyes a filmmaker could ask for under one roof! We will shine the spotlight on those who present a unique vision and create a poignant conversation through their films.

Each year, the festival chooses a theme that focuses on a current social issue or idea. This year's theme is (In)Equality.

For more info about this year's Short Film Competition, please download our "Guidelines" document HERE

*The Grand, Second, and Third prizes will be given to the films selected by a panel of respected filmmakers and scholars in Pittsburgh.

(sponsored by Point Park University)

This year we will be partnering with Point Park University once again to shine the spotlight on high school students who exhibit creativity through the use of film. The 3 best High School Student Films will be awarded scholarships* from the Cinema Arts Department at Point Park University, as well as an invitation to the Short Film Competition Screening Event.

*The awards are non-currency scholarships toward total tuition when the recipient is matriculating as a student at Point Park University in any of the Department of Cinema Arts Programs and each award must be exercised within one year or one academic calendar cycle (whichever is longer) from the presentation of the award. Additionally, the awarded scholarships are the award amount provided per annum for a continuous four year residency in the selected program.
