Rubin receives David P. Casasent Outstanding Research Award

Engineering & Public Policy Professor Ed Rubin has been awarded the 2021 David P. Casasent Outstanding Research Award. The award recognizes a CIT faculty member whose exceptional research contribution has enhanced CIT’s reputation globally and nationally and has received significant recognition from experts in the field.

Dr. Rubin earned the award for developing the Integrated Environmental Control Model (IECM), a highly influential effort that is nearly 40 years in the making. Originally created in the mid-1980s, the IECM has allowed engineers, policy makers, and researchers to systematically assess the performance, risks and potential payoffs of different advanced emission control options. The IECM provides the capability to model various conventional and advanced processes for controlling air pollutant emissions from coal-fired, coal-gasification, and natural-gas power plants before, during, or after combustion. The tool has been used in countless analyses, publications, and reports.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Rubin on this well-deserved honor.
