Welcome to Materials Science and Engineering @ CMU!
On behalf of the Materials Science and Engineering Department, congratulations on your recent acceptance to Carnegie Mellon University! We are delighted that you are considering joining our incredible community. In normal times, we would welcome you to campus in person, introduce you to our world-class professors, show you around our state-of-the-art facilities, encourage you to sit in on a class or two, and answer all your questions.
This year is a bit different, since we’re operating our campus remotely. So we’ve gathered virtual versions of the campus visit on this webpage. Here you’ll find links to live, in-person information sessions, faculty meet-and-greets, virtual tours of research opportunities, and recordings of actual undergraduate class sessions.
We know that you are making many decisions and we would like to have the best and most complete information available. Enjoy this virtual department visit, and if you have any questions remaining, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly.
We hope to welcome you to CMU this fall!
Professor Elizabeth Holm, Undergraduate Recruiting Chair
Paige Houser, Senior Academic Advisor
MSE Information Sessions
These sessions will answer all of your questions about the MSE curriculum, requirements, research opportunities, career options, and whatever else you think of. Go ahead, ask us anything!
There are no more information sessions in April. If you have any questions, please e-mail Paige Houser or Professor Holm.
During these live sessions, MSE professors will introduce you to materials science topics, undergraduate research opportunities, and life in the MSE department. Student panels will be held by current MSE students.

Virtual Department Tour
Although we can’t welcome you in person, these videos will give you a virtual tour of the research, facilities, people, and opportunities in MSE@CMU. Many of the students you will see here are undergrads just like you!
