ABSTRACT:
In this seminar, Dr. Sam Kernion (MS 2010, Ph.D. 2012) will speak about his career experience going from grad school at Carnegie Mellon to leadership roles at a large corporate established materials company and then making the jump to lead a startup founded on CMU technology. The talk will focus primarily on the decision-making process and experience of being an entrepreneur and things to consider if you are interested in starting your own company or joining a startup.   

BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Samuel J. Kernion is the Chief Executive Officer for CorePower Magnetics. Prior Samuel Kernionto this role, he held multiple leadership roles in R&D and Operations at Carpenter Technology Corporation, including managing up to 200 person organizations focused on development, product commercialization, and manufacturing. His work at Carpenter resulted in eight patent applications and multiple impactful product launches. Sam is one of the original inventors on the CorePower Magnetics technology from his time earning his Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
