More on Building Code Limits

In last month’s newsletter, I wrote about problems with certain classes of hazards and Building Code limitations for certain materials.  I’d like to dig a little deeper this month and let you know the specific things EH&S needs to be aware of when you bring certain materials into our buildings, to avoid building code violations.  Please inform EH&S whenever you are bringing in:

  • Explosive materials of any sort, including consumer products
  • Toxic, poison or corrosive gases
  • Pyrophoric or spontaneously combustible materials
  • Flammable organic peroxides
  • Highly toxic and/or poisonous solids or liquids

Each of these classes has a VERY low permissible limit under the codes.  If EH&S is aware of your materials in advance of their arrival, we can work to keep your lab and our buildings in code.
