Chemical Storage in Fume Hoods

chemical storage in fume hoodWe understand that it is very handy to have containers of frequently-used chemicals close at hand in the fume hood, but it is important to consider the other hazards that are associated with this practice. Flammable liquids pose a significant fire hazard, but excess storage of any chemicals may also create a hazardous situation by interrupting the proper air-flow through the hood. Too many chemicals (and other items stored) block the baffles which create the proper flow of air that keeps you safe during fume hood use.

Please minimize the storage inside your fume hood. Keep only small amount of what you will need for the immediate task at hand. If large pieces of equipment are stored in the hood, let us help you find another location, vented if necessary.
