*ISSUED STATEMENT: EH&S Position Statement on Exposure to WiFi Networks*
It is the position of Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Environmental Health and Safety that exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation from WiFi networks is not a health hazard. This position is based on studies performed to quantify the RF field levels emitted from wireless networks, as well as the general consensus of the scientific community. In addition, the FCC requires that all wireless communications devices sold in the United States meet its minimum guidelines for safe human exposure to radiofrequency energy. WiFi networks present at Carnegie Mellon University do not present a hazard to persons working or spending time in University facilities.
