Dining Plan Changes-Dining Services - Carnegie Mellon University

Dining Plan Changes

Don't worry if you are unsure about which plan is right for you. Eating habits can often change in college so we give you the flexibility to adjust them.

At the beginning of the fall semester, you have a window of time to adjust the mix of meals and flexible dollars of your dining plan. If you are eating more complete meals during a given week, then it would be better to switch to a level in your plan that has more meals/blocks. If you prefer to eat more snack foods or separate items, then it would be best to switch to a level with more flexible dollars.

All dining plan changes must take place during the official dining plan change period at the beginning of the fall semester:

  • In the fall 2017 semester, you may increase/decrease your meal plan on or before 5:00 pm, on Friday, September 22, 2017.

Login to the Dining Portal to make your meal plan changes before the dining plan change deadline.

After the deadline, you are only permitted to make changes to you dining plan due to a leave of absence, withdrawal, academic suspension, or if you are studying abroad.

You may only submit one change request during the dining plan change period. When you make changes, you will be refunded a prorated amount effective as of the next biweekly dining plan period. Changes made before or on the change deadlines will be approved and modified by the start of the third biweekly period.

Greek Students

  • Students who join a Carnegie Mellon Greek organization that has a dining plan/commercial kitchen and will move into the Greek house may cancel their Dining Services dining plan the week following the formal rush period for both fall and spring semesters. They will receive a prorated refund.
  • Students who join a Carnegie Mellon Greek organization with its own dining plan/commercial kitchen but will not move into Greek housing may reduce their dining plan the week following formal rush period to the Yellow plan. They will receive a prorated refund.
  • To cancel or reduce their Dining Services dining plan, Greek students must complete a change form (available from the Dining Services office) and a financial sign-over form for the dining plan, as well as provide signed documentation of the membership on the Greek organization letterhead. All documentation must be verified and approved by Dining Services.
  • Students who join a Greek organization without a dining plan/commercial kitchen are not permitted to reduce their Dining Services dining plan.

Special Dietary Needs

Students with special medical needs who would like to change or reduce their dining plan will need to have their dining needs evaluated by a University Health Services professional staff member. To start this process, please turn in a Special Needs Dining Form to University Health Services.
