Applications Open for Special Faculty - Lecturer Position

The Department of Statistics & Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a full-time; 12-month Special Faculty - Lecturer starting Fall, 2022.

The Department is seeking candidates with a passion for Statistics and/or Data Science and a desire to make a significant impact on the Department’s educational mission. We are looking for a candidate who will develop into a creative and effective educator to contribute to our thriving, modern undergraduate program. A successful candidate will be expected to have strong teaching skills. We welcome applicants working in all areas of statistics and data science, as well as related interdisciplinary fields. Teaching load is typically two classes per semester. There may be opportunities in lieu of teaching a class in a given semester by contributing to the program in other ways. Some examples would be working with the Department’s executive education program, building the repository, developing/improving the curriculum, working with online courses, building data sets, etc.

Lecturers are responsible for leveraging their expertise to deliver education services to undergraduate students through:

  • Preparing course plans and materials
  • Delivering courses
  • Monitoring progress/attendance
  • Advising students
  • Recording grades and submitting reports

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent amount of professional experience. The instructor should be a practitioner or academic with direct experience with the topic to be covered. Recent experience in teaching prior statistics courses at the college/university level preferred.
