Cap Maintenence

Cap Rotation

Each Neuroscan cap is labelled near the input port with the size and cap number (MED-2, LGE-4, SML-1, ...) It is important that each cap be used in a rotation, so that no cap gets worn out quickly. There is a cap sign-up sheet on the outside of the cabinet. Please note the date and cap used each time you run a subject. If possible, choose a cap that has not been used recently. This way the caps will wear evenly.

Cap Cleaning

Please follow these instructions when cleaning the caps after use.

1. Soak the cap 5-10 minutes in warm water. Make sure the plug is far away from the water.

2. Then use the waterpick to remove gel from the sensors on both sides of the cap. Be sure to remove the stickers from the eye and mastoid electrodes.

3. Using soapy water from step #1, go over both sides of the cap with the small toothbrush to ensure that all of the gel is removed (particularly from the small holes on the exterior side of the cap).

4. Soak cap in a solution of Hibiclens and water for 10 mins.

5. Thoroughly rinse the cap.

6. Hang the cap on one of the wig hangers to dry

Cap Repair

Follow the following instructions if one of the wires is missing or severed:

1. Remove the electrode attached to the broken wire.

2. Open a cap repair kit and attach the new electrode. insert the electrode so that the felt from the capcovers the "ridge" just below the top of the electrode.

3. Secure the electrode with the "O" ring fromthe repair kit. Thread the "O" ring through the lead wire so that when completed, the wire is above the ring. At this point the electrode should look exactly like all the other electrodes in the cap.

4. Strip a small (1/2 inch) piece of both ends of wire. Use the small 6/32 hole on the wire splitter to do this. Be sure that you have not cut any of the wire while stripping it. If a portion of the wire has been cut, cut the rest of the stripped wire and try again.

5. IMPORTANT: Slide the black tube piece over one of the wires to be spliced. If you skip this step, you will need to start over from the beginning.

6. Place the stripped ends of wire into the plastic tube so that both ends are touching the small metal piece in the center of the tube.

7. Use a match or lighter to shrink wrap the tube to the wires.

8. Finally, slide the black tube over the clear plastic tube and shrink wrap it .
